Hi, I’m Dr. Philip Cordova, I’m a chiropractor in Houston, Texas. Today I’m going to go over a very basic stretch that can help you while you’re sitting at your desk all day. Of course I have to tell you if this causes pain in any way, you should consult with your chiropractor or medical doctor before you continue on. This is just something that I give my patients because it seems to help them a lot from every day fatigue they experience from being on the computer. So, first of all, what we don’t want to do I see people grabbing their necks and their heads and doing this kind of stretch back and forth and yanking down, those are not going to be helpful stretches for what you’re dealing with. Basically, you’re on the computer, which means, chances are is starting to jut forward. These muscles are getting tighter and the back muscles are getting longer. So we want to stretch here. So we’re trying to stretch these muscles that are basically in the same position as where my hands are right now. So in order to get this underneath muscle here, what we’re going to do is cross our arms and pull down, it’s like you’re pulling down on the skin right over your collar bones. So you’re going to pull that down first and then bring your head back. You should feel a stretch right through this area right here. The next thing you want to do is isolate the right and the left side. The way you’re going to do that is you’re going to turn your head about 45 degrees and then we’re going to pull down again on the skin on the right side. So if I turn my head to my left, I’m going to pull down the right side here first. And then lean back. So you shouldn’t have to bring your head too far back in order to feel that stretch. If you pull down first. So you’re going to pull that down, turn your head, and then stretch. And you should feel that all along through here. You’re going to hold that stretch for a good 10 – 15 seconds, turn the other side and do the same thing.. and you’ve got a got yourself a great stretch that you can do throughout the day.
