How Much Alcohol Will Stop Weight Loss (and Ketosis)

hey guys today we're gonna answer the question how much alcohol will influence not just your weight loss but your ability to stay in ketosis all right so we have ethanol pure alcohol has seven calories per gram now a carbohydrate is only four calories per gram and that will block your weight loss and that will block your ketosis but this has more calories but ethanol does not spike your insulin directly and we know insulin is affected by carbohydrates and insulin blocks weight loss we also know that ethanol is not stored in the body like glucose as' so all the ethanol in the body has to be removed from enzymes made by your liver so if we're just looking at this information you may think that it doesn't affect your weight loss because it's not gonna stimulate insulin and your body's just gonna clean it up and you'll be fine but here's the problem ethanol is highly oxidative which means it creates a lot of stress in the liver your body considers it a toxin and so all that oxidative stress eventually causes inflammation and eventually it can lead to cirrhosis which is scar tissue and a fatty liver okay and they actually have a condition a fatty liver condition which is caused by alcohol but here's the big thing ethanol blocks fat burning it takes priority over the metabolism of fat so if there's alcohol in your body your body is going to stop burning the fat and it's gonna focus on this danger situation and try to get rid of it through the use of enzymes so all your metabolism is gonna be focused on getting rid of that alcohol not burning fat so depending on how much alcohol you drink it can literally block that burning for a day two days even three or four days most alcohol has added carbohydrates most people don't just drink pure ethanol drink beer wine other types of alcohol with with a lot of sugar in it now if you research the recommendation for drinking alcohol and all the benefits of drinking alcohol our government will tell you to drink two drinks per day if you're a man and one drink a day if you're a woman and they will tell you that you will actually benefit the cardiovascular system right now recently there's been a new recommendation based on another look at some of the studies that are already out there and they found that the benefits from alcohol actually are not there in fact it will increase your risk of death and this happens so many times with so many different products they constantly switched the recommendations before the trans fats were good now they're bad before sugar was good now it's bad and now they're telling us the alcohol is bad well hundred to even become good in the first place but if you're interested in more information I put a link down below but you probably already know what I'm going to talk about and that is the influence of the alcohol industry over government research okay now when you see government research okay realize that it's not as independent as you might think they usually partner with someone who is helping funding the research and they actually partner with the actual industry that's related to that research the whole point of this video is just to let people know there's no health benefits from ethanol so just don't be surprised if you don't experience the full benefits of ketosis so if you're gonna drink don't do it frequently don't be surprised if it slows down your progress do things to make up the damage I'll have a video on that below you can check it out if we compare the alcohol with the added carbs I would consume alcohol without the added carbs and you'd be much better especially if you're not going to overdo it alright guys thanks for watching so if you want to get notified with all my content click the notification bell next to subscribed

  2. I started my Keto journey 9 months ago. I lost 40 lbs and am maintaining my goal weight of 175 while drinking 1 glass of red wine every day. I recently did my blood work and all is good. This "one size fits all" approach isn't helpful. I don't count macros except carbs. I'm very strict about that. Listen to your body and find what it needs.

  3. I love how Keto-zealots in the comments find a way to justify their daily glass (or) bottle of wine or beer, but look grotesquely at some enjoying a coke with lunch. Alcohol is terrible for you for so many reasons.

  5. The links basically takes a list of all countries, and looks at how many people are killed from alcohol use. The only possible outcome then is that counties with lower consumption have lower alcohol related deaths. So Pakistan with 0.00000002 drinks per female per day, will have lower alcohol related deaths per female than Sweden with 3.2 drinks per day, and you will of course not find the usual u-curve that you find when doing the execice on an individual basis. The rest he said was correct, but I gave this video thumbs down. Also, I have a suggestion for video. New research now indicated why we get high blood pressure from insulin resistance, its basically that some cells in the arteries going to brain restricts flow that way, because of high glucose in blood, and capillaries vessels restrict flow due to insulin resistance in muscles, and result is high blood pressure. Another suggestion is the new research also suggest that glycemic index (or load) might not be so useful if you want to become metabolic healthy, since it is the GIF hormone released the upper part of intestine that trigger the main portion of the insulin, so if you eat food that can pass this area without absorption (basically things with cell structure intact) its possible to escape much of the insulin load on the body, giving your pancreas a good time, and over time healing the insulin resistance in body of 88% of western world population. It will be two good videos.

  6. Dr. Berg summed it up pretty well. There is no benefit from consuming alcohol. So I urge everyone to choose a day and quit! ? For me it was on Saint Patrick’s Day. What a great occasion to start sobriety, right? But I was happy I picked a memorable time to begin my journey, because I will never forget it. And the reason I quit drinking was important. Without a solid reason, kicking the alcohol habit will be hard in my opinion. Alcohol is an addictive drug, so we need to be really motivated to stop consuming the drug, and “just say no” (to quote Nancy Reagan). One of my big reasons for quitting booze was that I didn’t want to be a slave to the addiction anymore. I decided that I would have power over my actions, and not be controlled by alcohol. So now, when I see people drinking and partying it up like I used to do, I say to myself, “Been there, done that, ain’t gonna do it again!”. And then I’ll have a drink of something without alcohol in it. This way, I’ve been happy, healthy, sober, and I feel wonderful! I hope my story helps, and I wish everyone who wants to quit drinking much success!

  8. I've lost 90 lbs in 7 months on keto and IF. I still drink two small glasses of white wine every day, just make sure it's in your eating window and don't over do it!

I always enjoyed a glass of wine with my dinner european style thinking it aids digestion . . . but if dinner had any carbs ie pasta, rice or potatoes or any type of bread, or even croutons on the salad, I just didn't feel well afterwards, had trouble sleeping through the night and felt groggy and rather bloated the rest of the evening. Now I drink a sparkling Perrier or Club Soda with a slice of lemon. So much better!

  15. So would a straight liquor be better then as it's "more pure"? I'm sure there are some less damaging than others. I personally am interested if my theory of a single crown on ice every couple weeks is really significant. I've recently quit drinking all together, though. Just curious if I was onto something or not.

  17. Hi Dr. Berg could you do a video about the effects of marijuana on the eatibles or vaping. I don't so these things but wonder if it's a better option then drinking. Alcohol is the only thing I will break my diet for… And only on special occasions. But its legal where I live so maybe that could be my substitute. Oh also what was that tea that is your sub for alcohol? Also wanted to let you know that all of your followers are blasting Dr Oz. If you watch the one where he has montel Williams on and Naomi he doesn't give links to their website or anything he just puts it on his so he steals information from everybody. But that's the only one I watched since you informed us about his plagiarism. And that was just cuz I wanted to see how montel Williams was doing. FYI

  19. I really value your opinion and advice. I generally agree with everything you say. But I have to ask how this happened and is 100% true. I went on holiday to Malaga a couple years ago. It was all inclusive, and I ate a lot of food and never missed a meal (4 times a day) it was high protein but not always healthy, although i ate a lot from the carvery, I did eat Chinese, pizza and burgers too and I drank a bottle of cointreau a day and a couple of other things as well. Thing is, I lost about a stone after a week doing this. How was that possible, or are you just as confused as me? I dont even know if you will believe me, but I would love to know and I do not endorse this behaviour, but I was on holiday and went all out, lol. Love your videos, many thanks!

  20. I have been on the Keto diet for a little over 2 months. I’ve lost 20 pounds. I decided when I hit 190 that I would get a full physical. I just got all the bloodwork back. My doctor says I’m in great shape. My blood test values are straight down the middle in the normal range. I’m not taking any prescription meds. I’ve never slept better. My wife says I stopped snoring. She even noticed that I stopped passing gas. I am more energetic during the day. I am over the moon about the results. I’m posting this message to the YouTube sites who have helped me learn, who have provided great recipes, and where I’ve gotten encouragement — and even entertainment.
