Meet Ariel – A UQ Medicine graduate from Singapore

I wish I could name one, single best memory,
but to be honest my best memories are the friends that I’ve made over here.
And not just my classmates, but the clinical tutors and the lecturers that I have met
throughout my years here. Everyone has just been really welcoming
and I’ve never felt, actually, like a foreigner throughout my entire course. So my advice to anyone
looking to come here to study would be ‘just be yourself’.
Just put yourself out there. I feel like, especially coming from Singapore, people tend to want to stay within their own group. But Australia is lovely. Brisbane is lovely. And the people are more than
willing to welcome you into their lives. And so you should be willing to do the same. I’ve done my medical placements internationally, primarily in Singapore as I was intending to work there after graduation. But I have also done a few placements in Nepal,
specifically in Kathmandu. Having the opportunity to do these
placements overseas has definitely broadened my professional understanding of medicine in different cultures and
different social contexts.
