in this video I'm going to show you how to age paper to make it look old using glaze now I bought a pre-mixed glazing mixture by Ralph Lauren all it is is glazed in a brown paint this is called smoke now you want to make sure that you also have some water in a paint brush now I'm going to start by going around the perimeter of the paper when paper ages it's usually darker all the way around so I'm just going to use straight glaze and I'm going to do brush marks toward the center of the paper now you've got to work pretty fast because the glaze mixture does dry fast just go all the way around once you're done just take a paper towel and gently rub the glaze towards the center of the paper get to be careful because the paper is a little fragile for the paint just go all the way around once you're done with that you want to get some glaze first dip your paintbrush in the water you want to dilute it a little bit and then into the glaze now you just want to put the paint on the inside then take your paper towel and just do circular motions just be careful once you've got it completely covered just go around the perimeter again going toward the edge and in the center so it blends really well now i want the edges a little darker so i'm going to apply a second coat of just glaze I like that walk work on the SIP edges it's nice dark and they also like it when there's some blotch marks on the inside of the paper because if you look at old paper you'll see that so we just dab it on there then I go back and you want to just blot it what you're doing is trying to get the marks off from the paintbrush just blot it all the way around and on those marks that I did in the middle got to work pretty fast because it does dry fast just get all those brush marks off once you're satisfied with the design you can either let it sit and dry on its own or you can use a blow dryer I'll Drive with a blow dryer now what you want to do when you are blow drying it if you want to handle the paper quicker and the blow dryer toward the edges a little bit so you can lift it up because the paper can rip now I'm finished blow drying it you can handle the paper very easily just play around with it you you know it's it's personal taste if you look at aged paper the perimeter of the paper is usually always darker I like that a fact but you can do whatever you want I would just play around with it it's a lot of fun and very easy
