Swallowing Exercises – Keep the muscles in your mouth moving (Exercise 2)


The next four exercises will help you
to keep the muscles in your mouth moving. This will help to prevent them
from getting stiff. If you don’t use the function,
you might lose the function. Open your mouth as wide as you can.
You should feel a good stretch but not any pain. Hold this position for 5 seconds, Then relax for a few seconds
to give your mouth a break. Good work. Now let’s try that again. Open your mouth as wide as you can. Remember, you should feel a stretch
but no pain when you do this exercise. Hold the position for 5 seconds
and relax for a few seconds to give your mouth a break. Repeat that 7 to 10 more times. [pause] Now rest your mouth.

but no pain when you do this exercise. Hold the position for 5 seconds

and hold this position for 5 seconds. Release the position. Remember that if you’re feeling
any dryness in your mouth you should take a little break to swish and spit

your nose, just do the best you can. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Now move your tongue down towards your chin
like you’re trying to touch your tongue to your chin. Hold your tongue in this position
for 5 seconds. And rest.
This exercise can be a little bit tricky Let’s try it one more time. Stick your tongue up towards your nose
Like you’re trying to touch your tongue to the tip of your nose.
It’s ok if you can’t reach your nose. Hold your tongue in this position
for 5 seconds. Now move your tongue down towards your chin
like you’re trying to touch your tongue to your chin. And hold your tongue in this position
for 5 seconds. And rest. Let’s try that a few more times. Up to your nose [pause] And to your chin. [pause] And rest. Up And down. Good work. One more time. Up And down. Good job. Here’s a tip for this exercise:
Make sure you take your time And that you hold each position
for a full 5 seconds To make sure you give your tongue
a good stretch. You will have better results if you do. Stick the tip of your tongue out of your mouth
and move it to the left corner of your mouth. You don’t have to stick your tongue
out very far, just the tip. Hold your tongue in this position
for 5 seconds. Now move your tongue to the outside
right corner of your mouth. Hold your tongue there for 5 seconds. Release this position. Let’s go over that one more time. Stick the tip of your tongue out of your mouth
and move it to the left corner of your mouth. Hold your tongue in this position
for 5 seconds. Now move your tongue to the right
corner of your mouth. And hold your tongue there
for 5 seconds. Good work.
